HSD's Ann Gibbons Selected as a North County Inc. Public Service Award Recipient

The Hazelwood School District Board of Education member is among four selected to receive the award.

is in her 11th term as a board member on the . She was elected in 1981 and has served in her capacity for more than 30 years.

Treasurer of the the board, Gibbons has actively volunteered with PTA for more than 40 years, has more than 45 years of experience as a volunteer with Girl Scouts, and was a Boy Scout troop organizer for 12 years.

One achievement of which she is most proud is being the coordinator for the Youth for Understanding (YFU) International Exchange Program for 25 years.

For that she earned the YFU Volunteer Excellence Award, and has won many awards throughout the years including last year's Missouri School Boards’ Association FutureBuilders Foundation

At that time, a humble Gibbons said, "I certainly thought I wouldn't get it because I was standing in between two people that had done so much for the organization. So when they called my name I almost dropped to the floor."

In May, Gibbons will have another award to showcase. (NCI) has named Gibbons one of four recipients of its Public Service Award.

In a press release NCI's president/CEO, Rebecca Zoll, sent out to the public, she describes candidates for the award as "outstanding individuals, elected, appointed, or employed by a public body whose long-time service has had a positive impact on the community and/or public body they serve."

The other three candidate acknowledged for their public service include: Brian Fletcher, former mayor of the City of Ferguson; Dr. Cheryl Compton, superintendent with the Ritenour School District; and Mayor Monica Huddleston, City of Greendale.

The award will be presented at the 35th Annual NCI Breakfast on May 18 at the St. Louis Airport Marriott.
