HSD Hosts FIRST LEGO League Tourney, West Middle Participates

Participating teams were challenged to develop ways to improve the quality of life for senior citizens, by helping them continue to be independent in and connected to the community.

Recently, Hazelwood School District (HSD) hosted the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Qualifier Tournament.

There were 19 teams competing including six HSD teams: three teams from Hazelwood GALACTIC program, two from Hazelwood North Middle School and one from Hazelwood West Middle School. 

Participating teams were tasked with developing "Senior Solutions" to improve the quality of life for people 60 yearss and older. The teams had to come up with methods what would help seniors continue to be independent, engaged, and connected in their communities. 

Teams had to research issues and speak with local seniors to identify a problem or challenge.  The team then developed a research based solution to the problem.

Of the HSD teams, Hazelwood GALACTIC students that consist of Team RoboTechs advanced to the finals. They will move on to the Jefferson City Scramble in Jefferson City in February.
