Hazelwood West Orchestra to Hold Trivia Night Fundraiser

The orchestra is desperate to sell tables for the event. The students will use the funds to help pay for a trip to perform in Branson this May.

Do you love trivia? Would you like to help a group of local students achieve a shared goal?

The Hazelwood West High School orchestra is asking for the community’s help to send them to Branson in May. But they’re not just asking for handouts—they’re prepared to offer a little fun in return.

The orchestra is holding a trivia night on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Hazelwood Community Center, located at 1186 Teson Rd.

“There are 100 students that are participating to raise money to perform in several venues in Branson, MO from May 11 through 13,” said Beth Schmiedeke, West’s orchestra director.

Soda and light snacks will be provided by the orchestra, and participants are invited to bring their own alcoholic beverages if desired.

“Families are welcome,” Schmideke said. “The trivia is geared more toward adults, though.”

Schmideke said that pre-registration is preferred, but not required. The doors will open at 6 p.m. and the trivia starts at 6:30.

“We will take walk-ins and they can pay at the door,” she said. “We are desperate to sell tables.”

The orchestra has done several other fundraisers to help pay for the Branson trip, including a yard sale in September.

Schmideke said the kids will be doing a lot of activities on their trip, including performing at Silver Dollar City and in the lobby of Dixie Stampede, as well as enjoying several tourist activities.

“I like to keep the kids busy so they stay out of trouble,” Schmiedeke told Hazelwood Patch in September. “After the performances, we will do Dixie Stampede and eat dinner there and see the show, and we’re going to do Silver Dollar City that day.”

She also mentioned that the orchestra will go to the Landing, an outdoor shopping mall, and see The Haygoods, a family group that owns its own theatre, perform. The orchestra also has several other tourist activities on their agenda for the trip.

The cost for the orchestra’s trivia night is $120 per table, and there can be up to eight players per table. For reservations, Schmideke said you can call Pam at 314-363-9316.
