According to an email sent out to parents today, administration and the are dealing with a situation deemed as "attempted inappropriate sexual relations."
"In order to prevent the spread of misinformation and keep the lines of communication open, we want to provide you with information regarding a recent situation at West Middle School," the email stated. "Earlier this week, a female student reported that, toward the end of the day, in the lower cafeteria area, two male students attempted sexual relations with her in the boy’s bathroom."
The email states that the school administrators, in cooperation with the school resource officers, immediately began an investigation. After a thorough investigation, that included interviews with students throughout a two-day period, the email states the students directly involved in the sexual misconduct were removed from school premises.
Additionally, the email states that the Hazelwood Police Department is completing their own investigation.
If the allegations are confirmed, the discipline for students involved in this behavior includes one or more of the following:
- Up to a 10-day out-of-school suspension
- Discipline hearing
- The possibility of suspension up to 180 days
"Your child’s safety is our first priority," the email states. "We will continue to work on a daily basis to ensure each child can learn in an environment that is safe and secure. Your continued support and cooperation is crucial and very much appreciated."
