Hazelwood West High School Bands Rock Winter Concert

Three Hazelwood West bands took the stage on Tuesday and impressed crowds with their musical panache.

The bands put on an impressive winter concert on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the school's theatre.

The concert launched with a piece performed by the 19-member jazz band, followed by a welcome from director Aaron Jackson. The jazz band played the rest of their set before the concert band took the stage.

The concert band, featuring student musicians in grades 9 to 11, played five pieces to an appreciative crowd.

Following that performance, the symphonic band emerged from the audience and made its way to the stage to play four selections, including Spirit of the Falcon, The Polar Express, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Winterwinds.

Between each song, student musicians stood up to give the audience a bit of history related to the song. Several soloists rounded out the performances of each group, bringing much applause from the crowd.
