Hazelwood School District Fares Well in Annual Performance Review

The Hazelwood School Districts remains accredited in preliminary results.

The (HSD) will remain accredited from the state of Missouri, preliminary annual performance data released on Friday shows.

The school district met 10 of 14 standards established by the state on which to evaluate districts. Despite missing a few standards, Hazelwood did improve on its standard number one point.

"Although we are pleased that our students are making progress and that we have earned an additional standard, we understand that our hard work must continue," said HSD Superintendent Steve Price. "We know our teachers and students are working very hard, but we must continue to review the data and make necessary changes to earn more standards."

The state evaluates 14 areas of academic performance for each district in the state ranging from attendance to the Annual College Test (ACT) scores, and they assist in the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education look at which schools need support.

Throughout the state, 256 districts met all 14 standards out of a total of 447 K-12 districts.

To be fully accredited, a district must have met 9-14 of the standards; to receive provisional accreditation, the district must meet 6 to 9 standards. Districts that meet 0 to 5 standards can receive a recommendation to the State Board of Education to be classified as unaccredited.

The Breakdown

The Hazelwood School District did not meet the state's standards in the for grades 6-8 communication arts.

HSD also failed to meet standards in:

  • MAP grades 9-12 communication arts
  • Attendance rate
  • Meeting the benchmark for achievement on the MAP test
