Hazelwood Board of Education Gets Update on Transfer Cases

The Board of Education will meet Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Almost one month following the Missouri Supreme Court decision of Breitenfeld v. School District of Clayton, Hazelwood School District Board of Education will receive an update on its duties as well as to where the district stands for the transfer cases.

The court's ruling allows for students of unaccredited school districts to transfer to districts with accreditation.

Hazelwood Assistant Superintendent of Student Services Julia Burke Thorpe said earlier this month that the district will handle students from those districts interested in transferring to Hazelwood School District. Other districts will go through the Cooperating School District of St. Louis as a sort of clearinghouse.

Thorpe said the district had approximately 200 students on a waiting list interested in transferring. She will present an update on the transfer case as well as any policy changes needed of the board to comply with the court ruling.

For the full Hazelwood Board of Education agenda, check out the district's website.

The meeting will be held at the Hazelwood Learning Center at 6:30 p.m.
