Whiz Kid: Fourteen Hazelwood West High School Students Selected to St. Louis All-Suburban Choirs

Two students scored in the top 20 singers in their section, earning an opportunity to audition for the Missouri All-State Choir.

Fourteen students from (HWHS) were selected as members of three St. Louis All-Suburban choirs–Honor Choir, Women’s Honor Choir and Freshmen/Sophomore Honor Choir.

Two of the students scored in the top 20 singers in their section, earning an opportunity to audition for the Missouri All-State Choir. Tim Arnold, choir director at Hazelwood West, said approximately 400 students from the St. Louis area auditioned.

“It is extremely rewarding to see my students succeed," Arnold said in an Hazelwood School District statement. "The fine arts are not currently included in standardized tests such as the Missouri Assessment Program test or End-of-Course exams.

“They are not only some of the most talented vocalists in the area, they were also tested on their music reading abilities," he said. "These students are the best of the best."

Approximately 100 students are in each choir.
