Festival of Nations: 17 Countries Invade Hazelwood West High

Hazelwood School District English Language Learners hosted fifth annual Festival of Nations event.

At the end of January, Hazelwood School District English Language Learners (ELL) hosted more than 400 attendees during its fifth annual Festival of Nations at Hazelwood West High Schoo.

Festival of Nations is an opportunity to people to celebrate that differences that make people unique by sampling foods and that year, learning about 17 countires.

Each year upon arrival, participants are given a passport featuring the participating countries. Guests visit each table representing a different countries to sample foods and beverages, participate in games, and view cultural artifacts.

Student-volunteers that man the tables rewarded each tourist with a sticker that represents a stamp on the passport. Volunteers are typically from the country of orign.

This year guests also experienced student-dance performances from Central America, Jordan/Palestine, Mexico and Vietnam.

The following countries were represented in this year’s Festival of Nations: China, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Germany, Ireland, Russia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Guatemala, Honduras, Brazil and Mexico.
