Change in Dismissal Plans at Garrett Elementary due to Water Main Break

Dismissal will likely take longer today, and bus riders may arrive at their stop a little later.

Due to a water main break that occurred at the entrance to the parking lot, the lot will be closed at dismissal, and an alternate school release plan is being put into play.

According to Garrett Elementary School Principal Crystal Reiter, the dismissal plan is as follows:

  • security will route all traffic through the subdivision down Ville Maura to Ville Maria to Ville Rosa.  The school buses will be blocking the road directly in front of the school until they are loaded and depart.  Traffic will only be able to drive one way toward Dunn Road on Ville Rosa during dismissal.
  • Day care will be loaded as usual in their normal location.
  • Parents picking up students in vehicles will be loaded at the corner right next to the school sign.  This will occur one car at a time and will likely take significantly more time.

Reiter asked that parents please keep in mind dismissal will likely take longer than usual and the road will be congested.

"Please do not plan to arrive early to pick up students unless there is an emergency, as there will not be access to the parking lot," she said in an email newsletter to parents. "I appreciate your flexibility and patience as we ensure that student safety is the top priority."

Reiter also said students riding the school bus home, would arrive to their bus stop a few minutes earlier or later depending on dismissal flows.

After the water main broke, the water was turned off to the school and water was brought in so the restrooms could be used.  Bottled water was also brought in to drink, according to Reiter who also said lunch was not disrupted.
