Old Howdershell QuikTrip is Ready to Sell

When the new Gen 3 model QuikTrip opened in May, the old location situated across the street was stripped of its gas station ties, and packaged to sell.

The new Howdershell Road QuikTrip has been broken-in and the old location is barely recognizable.

Mike Thornbrugh, QuikTrip's manager of Public/Gov. Affairs said the company reacts quickly after a new store opens, to break down the old location.

"We just react quickly, removing pumps, canopies, fixtures etc.," he said.

When asked for a timeline on getting old locations sold, Thornbrugh said it's hard to say.  He also said he was unable to provide a percentage for the number of old locations that are sold after a Generation 3 gas stations open.

"There really is not a timeline, there are certain businesses we place deed restrictions on, not sure of the number," he said. "We have around 90 or so Gen III company wide, I think it is safe to say a vast majority of the buildings and land have been sold."

Outside brokers are used sell the properties, and there is a internal real estate group that market the properties, Thornbrugh told Patch.

When told about resident concern regarding the old location standing vacant, Thornbrugh said the company has the same concerns.

"We also are concerned with an empty building, that is why we get them ready to be sold every quickly, and we will maintain them until they are sold," he said.

David Cox, economic developer for the City of Hazelwood said the new store and new vacant building are both good news for the city.

"The new store and the possibilities for the old site's reuse are a great boost for Hazelwood," he said.
