Restricted Parking Times Change Near Garrett Elementary for Safety

Hazelwood City Manager, Edwin Carlstrom, said the changes provide a safer driving environment during school hours.

The City of Hazelwood is making efforts to make students safer near Garrett Elementary School.

The city has changed the prohibited parking time during certain hours on certain streets to impose additional parking restrictions along Ville Rosa Lane on school days. Hazelwood City Manager, Edwin Carlstrom, said it's in order to provide a safer driving environment.

Carlstrom said the decision to amend the city's Code of Ordinances now prohibits parking on the south side of Ville Rosa Lane from Ville Donna Lane, approximately 375 feet east, during school days from 8:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. It also prohibits parking in the designated area from 3:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.

The area can be a safety issue during the designated school times for multiple reasons including the fact that people do speed through the area, the school sets on top of a hill and parked cars may impede driver vision as children cross the street to enter the school grounds.
