Restaurant Report: Complaint of a Bug and Not-So-Cool Freezers

This week's restaurant report contains a restaurant that was reported for having roaches, but passed a surprise inspection with an A+, along with a few eateries having a hard time keeping the coolers cool.

Comments: According to the inspector, a complaint stated that some type of hard-shell bug was found in the Lo Mein. The inspector spoke with the manager and according to the report, he was aware of the complaint, the Lo Mein was discarded and the customer was offered a refund. The inspector states that no bug of any type was found in the Lo Mein or any food item on the buffet line on inspection day. No follow up inspection is required.

Grade: A-100

Comments: A sanitizer spray bottle solution exceeded the allowed concentration. The mixture was corrected to the proper concentration level, according to the inspector. According to the inspection report, the food establishment's health permit is "past due" and needs to be paid immediately.

Type of Inspection: Routine

Risk Factor: 2

Grade: A-99

Comments: There was ice buildup inside the walk-in freezer, according to the inspection report. A small reach-in cooler in the front area held a temperature of 48 degrees, according to the report. The inspector said no potentially hazardous food shall be stored in the cooler until it's holding the correct temperature of 41 degrees or lower.

Date of Inspection: July 11

Type of Inspection: Opening

Risk Factor: 2 Grade: A-94

Comments: According to the inspector, all coolers on inspection day held temperatures between 44 and 54 degrees. The restaurant is not approved to open until all coolers are holding at 41 degrees or lower. The inspector also said that the cutting boards were "heavily discolored and scratched."
