New Cops on the Beat in Hazelwood

Hazelwood City Council swore in new police officers and approved two ordinances at this week's city council meeting.

The streets of Hazelwood will be a bit safer now that the has hired three additional officers. At last night's Police Chief Carl Wolf introduced the three new city employees: Officers Josh Davis, Patrick Kiely and Randolph Lancaster. Wolf said all three started on November 28.

Mayor Matthew Robinson was not present at the meeting, but Mayor Pro-Tempore, Councilwoman Mary G. Singleton of Ward 8 said a few warm words.

"Be nice to them," she said jokingly to Wolf. "On behalf of the entire city council I want to welcome you (all) to the city."

Davis is a Berkeley, MO transport and has been an officer in the St. Louis County area since '03. Lancaster is a Concordia University graduate with a bachelor's degree in business. Kiely is 2009 St. Louis Police Academy graduate.

In another sector of safety, Bobbie Bailey was sworn to her re-appointment to the Neighborhood Watch Commission. Ward 4 Councilman Mike Conley made the appointment. Bailey who took her oath of office, has served as a member of Hazelwood's Neighborhood Watch Commission for six years.

City Council also made a proclamation honoring Dale Woltering for his dedicated service to the . Woltering has participated in each disc golf league at the course since its inception on May 26, 1979.

"I just want to thank the council for its continued support of disc golf," said Bob Wademan, Woltering's friend who was present and handed out discs affixed with the announcement. "There's a lot of us that are, and have been dedicated to this for the past 30 years."

City Council also considered and adopted first reading of two bills. The first was to approve an agreement for a federally funded "Safe Routes to School" program to help monitor traffic near . The second item was a construction contract for the Hazelwood Avenue Whitetopping Project. The award would be bid to the lowest bidder, which Assistant City Manager Bob Frank said would be Millstone Bangert INC, with a bid of $1,308,084.  The company is located in St. Charles.

In other news, Hazelwood City Council:

  • withdrew and terminated a bill to enter into a lease/purchase agreement with UMB Bank.
  • approved second reading of a bill for a special land use permit for CDL Training Services of Missouri.
  • approved the consent agenda that included allowing the addition of Cool TV to the Charter Communications lineup and allowing Ameren Missouri to provide tree trimming throughout its Hazelwood service territory.
