Hazelwood's Unemployment Rate Nudges Down

Bureau of Labor Statistics releases unemployment statistics showing significant jump from August, compared to the rest of the year.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released the latest unemployment data for cities with populations greater than 25,000.

Unemployment in the has fallen from 10.1 percent in January to 9.1 percent in September. The only other period this year that tops September's low is April, when unemployment was 9.0.

The data, which is not seasonally adjusted, shows that 1,3460 Hazelwood residents, out of a labor force estimated at 14,792 people, were out of work.

The last time unemployment was this low during the month of September in Hazelwood was in 2008, when September unemployment was 6.5 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Countywide unemployment has decreased as well this year at about the same pace. The preliminary data for September 2011, which has not been seasonally adjusted, shows 8.4 percent unemployment.
