Hazelwood Fire & Rescue Agrees to Service GKN Aerospace, New Contract Means More Money

The City of Hazelwood agreed to continue servicing the business located near Hazelwood for $120,000; twice last year's contract.

GKN Aerospace (GKN) is a global aviation supplier just outside Hazelwood city limits. According to its website, it manufactures highly complex composite and metallic aerostructures and engine products; and the company needs someone to respond to any emergencies or fires.

That's where the City of Hazelwood comes into play. Although the company has a city address, it is not part of Hazelwod, but the city has and will continue to serve as the company's fire department with one adjustment to its contract.

There is one thing different about the city's new contract with GKN is the price.

City manager Edwin Carlstrom said as a result of Hazelwood Fire Chief Dave Radel looking into the cost of inflation relative to the services Hazelwood provides, the price of the relationship was amended.

The new contract is similar to the prior contract. Hazelwood will provide fire protection, emergency medical and other services. GKN will provide various trainings related to the job.
