Hazelwood Begins Pick-Up Following Friday Night Storm

The City of Hazelwood city crews will be picking up tree limbs from curbs throughout the week.

Although most Hazelwood residents have power again, the clean-up from the Friday night storm continues.

The National Weather Service identified EF-3 tornadoes cutting from St. Charles County through the North County area and into Illinois. Several businesses and neighborhoods sustained damage as well as tree limbs came down in a number of areas.

Hazelwood Communications Coordinator Tim Davidson said that city crews have been working to clear the subdivision behind Hanley and Latty Avenue as it was one of the hardest hit areas of the city.

Davidson said that residents who have tree limbs down from the storm can place them on the curbside as the city crews begin to make rounds to pick them up this week. No structural debris will be picked up, only tree limbs, he said.

As of Tuesday evening, Davidson said between 90-95 percent of the city had power restored with 100 percent expected at some point Tuesday night.

The City of Hazelwood has been hard hit in past months as a EF-2 tornado swept through the town and caused a great deal of damage.

On the city website, the city has posted a resource guide for what to do in a tornado for resident.

Patch toured the area Tuesday afternoon to see the newly affected areas from the recent storm.
