Erin Brockovich's Firm to visit West Lake Landfill, Will It Help?

It was originally being reported Brockovich would be in St. Louis, but it appears she is sending members of her firm in her place.

Say the name Erin Brockovich and Julia Roberts may come to mind. Or maybe you think about diligence in the face or adversity, or environmental issues.

The real Erin Brockovich is taking interest in the environmental and health issues occurring in North County, and is sending some of her Brockovich Research & Consulting crew in to meet with residents dealing with the West Lake Landfill.

News outlets were originally reporting Brockovich would be coming, but Dawn Chapman, an activist for change with the landfills said it isn't so.

Chapman was one of the many residents who wrote Brockovich trying to get her to come.

"Erin Brockovich is sending her team to St. Louis this Saturday but we received word this evening that she will not be attending personally this time," Chapman wrote on the West Lake Landfill Facebook Page. "We are so excited that she has answered our plea to come and help out our community and lend support to us in our fight.

"This is a huge  blessing to all of us and will not only help bring national attention but will bring people who have experience dealing with several of these agencies."

West Lake Landfill is a superfund site with a lot of radioactive wasted buried within. The waste spans from the United States' first nuclear bomb production, also known as the Manhattan Project.

The meeting will take place at the International Union of Operational Engineers Local 513. The address is 3449 Hollenburg in Bridgeton. The meeting will be on Saturday at 11 a.m..
