Emerald Automotive Posts Its First Jobs, Leases Hazelwood Property

For those who have been awaiting some word related to the that a new hybrid vehicle manufacturer would be to Hazelwood, the wait is over. Well, kind of.

The first initial 11 jobs have appeared on a newly launched website for Emerald Automotive, the who has made the its North American base.

“After months of secrecy about the t-001, we are delighted to launch a comprehensive website that details all of the product attributes, technical details, the team, and, most importantly, the first job opportunities,” said Andy Tempest, CEO of Emerald Automotive in a statement. “This is just the beginning of the very exciting journey we have started.

"Through the site, we will be able to keep everyone updated on our progress, post all current job vacancies and allow online applications.”

Jobs on the website within the 'Careers' tab range from supply chain director to chief information officer to a facility manager and an office manager.

You can upload your resume onto the site, so for those individuals who may have sent some to Hazelwood Patch, the City of Hazelwood or anywhere else, you may want to do so.

And if you look within the 'About Us' tab on location, you'll see the administration office is a familiar place--.

“We selected this location because it is perfect place to start our planning and recruitment," Tempest said. "The easy access from the airport along N. Lindbergh Boulevard, plus the central location in Hazelwood, make it easily accessible for any of our visitors.”

"The location for Emerald’s permanent assembly and office facility in Hazelwood will be announced early in 2012 when final selection of three sites is complete."

At Wednesday's Hazelwood City Council meeting, council approved to place the lease agreement on the agenda for first reading. 

"Missouri Technology Corp. did approve the final agreement," said Hazelwood Mayor Matthew Robinson. "Emerad is ready to start moving in."

The hybrid van maker will be leasing the space for $2,000 per month for a minimum of 12 months, according to the introductory ordinance draft.

The company said paper applications can be mailed to the location, as well. Recruiting for manufacturing positions won’t begin until sometime in 2012. When available, those jobs will be posted on the company’s site also.

The British-based automotive company said it plans to bring just under 600 jobs to the Hazelwood area by building a new plant to manufacture electric vehicles by 2014. The company will hire 300 people by 2013 and have the full workforce the year following.

The vehicles would be lightweight delivery vans for European commercial fleets, that would eventually be sold in the U.S. and potentially Asia.
