Election Filing Open for Hazelwood School District Board of Education Seats and Hazelwood Mayor Spot

Residents have until Jan 17 to file to run for office in those positions.

As 2011 nears to an end, planning for 2012 elections has gotten underway.

Filing for seats on the  Board of Education, and for the 's top spot: the mayor.

Mark Behlmann and Desiree Whitlock will have to decide if they want to run to keep their seats on the school board, while Mayor Matthew Robinson will have to do the same for the mayoral spot. Their current terms are up for election in the April 3 election.

Filing opened Dec. 13 and closes at 5 p.m. Jan. 17.

For interested parties, the Hazelwood School District will be closed Dec. 22 through Jan. 2 for the holidays.

For those interested in filing for one of the board of education seats, they must fulfill the following requirements:

  • A citizen of the United States
  • At least 24 years old
  • A resident taxpayer of the school district
  • A resident of the state of Missouri for at least one year
  • File a declaration of candidacy

If you think you are mayor material, you must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Possible candidates must collect no less than 50 and no more than 100 registered voter's signatures of their petition.
  • Candidates must also be at least 21 years old, and a registered voter.
  • They must also have lived in the City of Hazelwood for at least two years immediately prior to the election.
