Standoff at Berkeley Residence Near Hazelwood

A person barricaded themselves in the home, according to police, near the intersection of Frost and Carol Lee.

4:30 p.m. UPDATE:

Berkeley Police Chief Frank McCall Jr. said the man who locked himself inside his house in the 6700 block of Carol Lee Drive is armed but believed to be alone.

Police said the suspect's father was initially inside but got out safely, according to stltoday.com, who is reporting a James Robinson came to the scene of the standoff Thursday afternoon and identified himself as the suspect's lawyer.

He said the middle-aged man is upset because relatives called state authorities to report problems with the man's elderly father. Apparently a case worker stopped by the home to check on them.

Berkeley, MO-SWAT officers with the Berkeley Police Department are outside a home near Berkeley Middle School after a person barricaded themselves in the home, according to police.

Police say the suspect fired shots at police before barricading himself inside the home, according to KTVI.

The residence is located near the intersection of Frost and Carol Lee just a couple blocks from where the begins.

Berkeley Police Chief Frank McCall Jr. said the school is under a "shelter in school" alert, meaning it's on lock down and no one is allowed in or out of the buildings, according to KSDK.

The school day should have ended at 1:50 pm. Students will be kept on campus until police deem it safe to leave.
