A man was indicted by a St. Louis County grand jury on several charges related to a July 16 shooting in Hazelwood.
Phillip Monroe, 18, of the 6800 block of Waterleigh Avenue in Berkeley, was indicted Jan. 30 on first-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and tampering with evidence charges.
Hazelwood Police said that Monroe, acting with Howard W. Rogers III, shot a .40 cal pistol at another man in the 200 block of Manning Avenue in Hazelwood at 10:23 p.m. July 16. According to court documents, police believe Rogers did the shooting in the July 16 incident. The bullet grazed the man’s leg. Police said Monroe or Rogers fired more shots into the man’s residence.
Police said Monroe then hid the firearm from police and prosecutors, hampering the case against Rogers.
Rogers was indicted by a St. Louis County grand jury for the shooting Oct. 31.
Monroe also is charged in another shooting in Hazelwood.
Hazelwood Police said Monroe fired four shotgun blasts into a home in the 200 block of Flora Drive in Hazelwood in a drive-by shooting at about 8:41 p.m. Sept. 25. No one was injured. Two other men also are charged in the drive-by shooting.
Monroe is being held in St. Louis County jail. Bail was set at $50,000 on the July 16 shooting charge. Bail was set at $75,000 for Monroe on the Sept. 25 shooting charge.
Monroe’s next court appearance in the shootings is scheduled for March 15.
