Dennis Newell, HWHS's principal sent the following mesage via email to parents around 12:20 p.m.:

Dear Parents, Guardians and Supporters of Hazelwood West High School,

This morning, a student communicated a safety concern with a teacher, which was reported to HWHS administration. The concern prompted us to follow Hazelwood School District safety procedures, and the building and campus were secured for approximately 45 minutes. The building returned to normal activity, starting with lunches, at approximately 10:40 a.m.

All students and staff at HWHS are safe. The search did not result in any findings. The concerns were taken seriously and HSD staff and the Hazelwood Police Department SROs worked well together in this situation.

HWHS teachers and staff, HSD Security and Hazelwood SROs are to be commended for their efforts and cooperation.

Dennis Newell

Principal, Hazelwood West High School
