Hazelwood Police Investigating a Homicide at Knollwood Apartments, Person in Custody

Police found Denitra Jones, 27, inside an apartment on Aug. 26. A person has been arrested and is awaiting charges.

The  death of a Hazelwood woman has been ruled a homicide. Around 9:45 a.m., on Monday, the Hazelwood Police Department was asked to check on the welfare of a woman who lived in the 5400 block of Forest Creek Drive. Her family was concerned about her well-being, according to police. 

They found Denitra Jones' lifeless body inside an apartment. Police said there were “suspicious circumstances” surrounding the death of the 27-year-old, but did not go into how Jones was killed.

The St. Louis County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide Monday afternoon and Hazelwood police have a person in custody.

No more information was made available as police are awaiting the the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office to file charges.
