Hazelwood Police and High Schoolers Top Fundraisers for 2013 Polar Plunge

This year's goal was to raise $116,000, according to the Special Olympics of Missouri website, which also states $90,793 has been raised thus far.

Hazelwood West High School (HWHS) students and the Hazelwood Police Department (HPD) took the Polar Plunge in 38-degree temperatures two weeks ago, and have come out on top and two of the top fundraisers for the event.

About 750 people ran into Creve Coeur Lake for the 7th Annual Polar Plunge, on Feb. 23, benefitting Special Olympics of Missouri (SOMO). This year's goal was to raise $115,600, according to Jacelyn Diehl, SOMO area director.

HPD was the second highest fundraising team for the entire event. Officer Dan Bridges was the overall top fundraiser collecting $4,000 for the cause. HPD had a team of 14 people that jumped in. The team raised $5,680 for the event, according to its SOMO website on plunge day.
