Hazelwood Man Surrenders After Standoff with Police, Accused of Firing Assault Rifle at Ex-Girlfriend

A Hazelwood Police Department officer was investigating an unrelated call and heard a single gunshot nearby Sunday afternoon.

A Hazelwood man is in custody following a standoff with the Hazelwood Police Department (HPD) on Sunday.

Rashidi Greer, 21, was arrested and charged with domestic assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The charges stem from a domestic shooting, according to HPD.

Police say an officer was investigating an unrelated call near the 8400 block of Latty Avenue when he heard a single gunshot ring out around 12:15 p.m.

At the same time, a woman called the police saying Greer, her former boyfriend, fired an assault rifle at her during a domestic disturbance.

Police say Greer then ran into his residence and officers set up a perimeter around the home. HPD made cell phone contact with Greer, convinced him to surrender and took him into custody without incident.

Two additional firearms were located inside the home, one of which police believe was used in the original disturbance.

The Berkeley Police Department and the Missouri Highway Patrol assisted with the standoff.
