Girl, 4, Found Sobbing in Park After Being Left Behind by Daycare Center

Preschool reportedly failed to do a proper head count and exceeded passenger occupancy limits on two vans used to transport children.

Spirit Truth Preschool and Daycare Center, a child care facility, was hit with several safety violations after a 4-year-old girl was left behind at Musick Park during a field trip in July, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

According to the report, a complaint was made to police and state child care regulators by a parent after he was told by a staff member several hours later that his daughter had been accidentally left at the park that day.

The girl was found shortly thereafter sobbing in the park.

From the report

A follow-up investigation by regulators with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services found that the child care staff failed to do a proper head count and had also exceeded passenger occupancy limits on two passenger vans used to transport the children. Documents show staff took 32 children to the park in two vans that each had a 14-passenger limit. In the return trip, the center transported 39 children in the same two vans, records show.
