Berkeley Man Faces Three Charges for Standoff Near Hazelwood

The St. Louis County prosecutor has charged Kelvin Purnell, 51, with three felonies related to a standoff at his home Thursday near Hazelwood.

The St. Louis County prosecutor has charged Kelvin Purnell, 51, with a trio of felonies related to an , near Thursday afternoon.

Purnell faces charges of first-degree assault, armed criminal action and resisting arrest for the incident at his home in the 6700 block of Carol Lee Drive, according to Missouri Case.net.

His bond is set at $125,000 cash only.

The incident, which lasted about five hours, began just before noon after a arrived at the home to check on Purnell's elderly father.

Purnell became agitated, shots exchanged between he and the officer and Purnell barricaded himself in the home.

He exited the home voluntarily after 5 p.m. Thursday. He was immediately arrested.

Students that were detained at nearby schools were also release after police deemed the situation under control and safe.
