Baby-Selling Powerball Winner Headed to Prison

Patty Bigbee, a former Hazelwood resident who allegedly tried to sell her grandson, was sentenced to five years in prison for the crime this week.

Former Hazelwood resident Patty Bigbee, who was caught on tape negotiating the sale of her infant grandson is headed to prison for the crime. A judge sentenced her to five years after saying that Bigbee was a a "prime mover" in the scheme, according to an Orlando Sentinel report.

In court on Thursday, Bigbee blamed the baby's mother, Stephanie Bigbee-Davis, and said she just wanted to find a good home for the boy, according to the report.

Bigbee, who won the Missouri Lottery while living in Hazelwood, is considered the main conspirator of the plot to sell her grandson to a child she bore and gave up for adoption more than 25 years ago, 27-year-old Danielle Skiver of Valrico, FL. The price tag, $75,000; although she only planned to give the child's mother $1,000 of it, according to a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FLDE) charging affidavit.

Bigbee-Davis pleaded guilty in March to her role in the crime. She was sentenced to a two-year prison term.

Bigbee's boyfriend, Lawrence Works, pleaded "no contest" in March and received time served for his role in the crime.

According to the report, after Bigbee was sentenced she hugged her attorney, Joan Anthony. A court deputy fingerprinted her, and she was led away in handcuffs to begin serving her sentence.
