8 Year Veteran Police Officer Recovering After Thief Rams Him with Stolen Car

Hazelwood Police Department officer Jonathan Anth underwent surgery and police say the doctors predict an "eventual recovery."

Officer Jonathan Anth is recovering after he had to be extracted him from his police vehicle on Saturday.

Maj. Henry Mansker said Anth, an eight year veteran of the Hazelwood Police Department, was responding to assist other officers in the investigation of a stolen pickup truck.  

He'd just arrived on the scene when the vehicle thief ran a red light and rammed the stolen car into Anth's vehicle while trying to escape. The point-of-impact was the driver’s side door. See: Hazelwood Officer Injured In Pursuit of Stolen Car

"Officer Anth had to be extracted from the patrol car by the Hazelwood Fire Department," Mansker said. "It was determined that he sustained extremely serious injuries."

Anth was immediately rushed to the hospital where he has been recovering since the event.

Mansker said Anth underwent surgery to address numerous injuries.

"His doctors have advised the prognosis is good for his eventual recovery," he said.
