Reader's Question: Should I continue to invest while the market is so volatile?

Saving during a turbulent market.

Should I continue to invest while the market is so volatile?

Submitted By: Mary

While the market has been volatile lately, staying the course is the best strategy for achieving your long-term goals.  When you began saving and investing, did you expect the market to be calm for the next 10 to 20 years or did you expect hiccups along the way?

While many people understand the market will fluctuate, many find it difficult to stay focused on their goals during those often difficult and uncertain times. Unless your retirement goal has changed, I would suggest continuing to save according to your plan and you may even consider increasing your contribution.
