Hazelwood Collects 38 Tons of Electronic Recyclables

Despite a stormy start, the Hazelwood Recycling Day was a success.

Although a large portion of Hazelwood dealt with the blow of another turbulent storm May 31, the City of Hazelwood pushed ahead with great results.

Area residents recycled more than 35 tons of electronics and appliances as well as shredded more than 8,000 pounds of documents. More than 400 cars drove up to drop off their unwanted and no longer used goods.

Allied Waste Services, Web Innovations and Technology Services, Inc., Shred-It and St. Louis Outlet Mall teamed up with the City of Hazelwood to help with recycling electronics, important documents and other items.

“We’ve made good progress with our efforts to educate residents about making recycling a part of their everyday lives,” Mayor Matthew Robinson said in a previous city press release. “The tonnage of recyclables collected by Allied on a monthly basis in Hazelwood has remained high.”
