Trade Gardening Secrects at Saturday's Brookes Park Plant Exchange

Residents are welcome to bring their excess perennials to swap or donate.

The Hazelwood Garden Club and Historic Preservation Commission will host a plant exchange on Saturday at Brookes Park from 9 a.m. to noon.

Residents are welcome to bring their excess perennials to swap or donate.

Tim Davidson, the city's communication coordinator said the commission plans to create a garden of native plants near the Utz-Teson House on the park grounds. The house was unveiled last year after it was restored to to represent the different construction techniques used to build and expand the house since the 1780’s.

The Utz-Teson House is the oldest of the three historic structures on display at Brookes Park. The other two buildings include The Little Red Schoolhouse and The Knobbe House, both 19th century structures.

The garden will reflect plants grown in the mid 1700’s to early 1800’s.
