The Boeing Co. is also shutting down early today, at least for part of the day. It is suspending operations during Thursday’s second shift.

“Due to ongoing inclement weather, first shift employees are encouraged to return home,” spokeswoman Chamila Jayaweera said in a statement. “Where feasible, employees who have management approval to work remotely can do so in accordance with Boeing procedures."

All “essential maintenance personnel”  are still required to report for work and Jayaweera said Boeing officials would decide the fate of third shift operations later tonight, according to the statement.

The winter storm has canceled more than 160 flights out of Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.
