No Bra Needed: Monday is National No Bra Day!

It's not a joke. But it is a nice way to free up a heavy topic.

I'm sure some out there wouldn't mind the lack of support on Monday morning. With the latest string of heat it can feel like wearing a bra and shirt is really wearing a turtleneck; but no worries, things will get better soon.

In the meantime, while searching for news topics Sunday morning, I stumbled across a Facebook site dedicated to " I heart Boobies."

I found out Monday is National No Bra Day. A day dedicated to going free and getting rid of one of the most uncomfortable clothing items women have to wear.

That's right, National No Bra Day. Not much was represented in mainstream media about the day, but on blogs it's pretty big. As one Cafemom put it:

"I'm not entirely sure how this tradition got started or who's behind it -- could be our bra-burning foremothers, could be some dudes who figured this would be an awesome way to see some boobs, who knows? But either way, I'm in!"

Other blog spots like DiversityHuman.com question the validity of the day;

"My colleagues were talking this no bra thingy. I heard them saying that this would be observed this 9th of July and they are encouraging their girlfriends to show support. My initial reaction? I doubted its authenticity...but still I gave myself a chance to conduct a research to verify its validity."

Either way, more than 250,000 women RSVP'd to National No Bra Day on Facebook in 2011 during its first year, and almost 400,000 people showed support.

If you are wondering what you are supposed to do on this day, well, I haven't quite figured that part out beyond just hanging loose. Literally.

If wearing a bra on this day is absolutely necessary, show your support by wearing something purple or green, according to the cause Facebook page.

In all seriousness, whether or not you decide to go free, don't forget to perform your monthly breast self exam. Early detection makes for the best breast cancer outcomes.

Enjoy!
