Learn About Finding Credible Help Sunday at Tornado Recovery Resource Fair

Recovery from a disaster can take several months, or even years, and the United Way along with FEMA's Long Term Recovery want to help residents realize the road ahead.

St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley said it best on Thursday.

"Don't become a victim twice," he said of researching reputable people to help in tornado re-building efforts.

For that reason, the Multi-agency Resource Center will be available to help those tornado victims this weekend. The organization will host a resource fair at the Hazelwood Community Center, located at 1186 Teson Road on Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.

The goal is to help area Florissant and Hazelwood residents with finding credible and appropriate resources. Recovery from a disaster can take several months, or even years, which is evident as we near the two year mark of the Good Friday Tornadoes that ripped through North County heavily impacting Ferguson and Bridgeton.

Attendees will:

  • Learn how to meet immediate and long-term needs
  • Learn about debris removal
  • Discuss storm-related insurance claims
  • Get help with finding legal services


Anyone affected by the tornado and subsequent storms on April 10 is welcome to attend. The session is free but a photo ID and a current utility bill (if one is available) with you address is required for verification purposes.

Just a few participating agencies include the American Red Cross of the Greater St. Louis Region, AmeriCorps St. Louis, Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, FEMA Long Term Recovery and the United Way of Greater St. Louis.
