Mother Nature Knocks Out Hazelwood's Lights, Again

More Than 40,000 Without Power in St. Louis County. More than 2,000 without power in Hazelwood, with an anticipated restoration time of 11:45 p.m.

UPDATE: 1 p.m. Monday. Power has been restored in the Hazelwood area.

For the second morning in a row, Hazelwood residents have awakened to no power. Ameren Missouri has reported a number of power outages throughout the Hazelwood  area due to early Monday morning storms.

In fact, there is still drizzle, thunder and lightning in the area, which the National Weather Service forecasted for today.

The Ameren Missouri outage map on its website reports approximately 2,190 Hazelwood residences that appear to be without power as of 8 a.m. Monday. That's about 900 more than the number of homes without power in Hazelwood on Sunday morning following a round of storm activity.

According to Ameren, the anticipated power restoration time for Hazelwood is 11:45 p.m.

Throughout the St. Louis area the estimate is more like 40,000 residents without power. Zip codes representing Florissant and Kirksville respectively, 63033 and 63501, are the only listed areas showing more residents without power than Hazelwood as of 8a.m.

The Ameren Missouri website states that the company is "responding to severe storms that have left more than 40,000 customers without power." It also states that "crews are in the field assessing and repairing damage, and out-of-town crews are arriving to assist in restoration efforts."
 

The National Weather Service (NWS) has a hazardous weather outlook, flash flood watch and flood warning posted for the area. Only the flood warning will last beyond Monday. Make it through Monday and the rest of the week appears to be sunny with warm temperatures, according to the NWS.

Monday: A chance of thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 101. South wind between 7 and 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Monday Night: A chance of thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. North wind between 5 and 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. North wind between 7 and 9 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 64.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 83.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 69.
