More than 2,300 Without Power in Hazelwood

An early afternoon storm on Monday left a few problems throughout the .

Ameren Missouri shows more than 2,300 residential and business power outages throughout the city as of 1:30 p.m.

Some schools within the are also without power, but are assessing backup lighting along with natural lighting, according to an email the district sent out to parents.

"As you are probably aware, a strong storm recently passed through our school district. As this time, several school buildings are without power," the emails states. "Our students are safe and we are accessing natural light and other back-up light sources to continue our school day."

The email also stated that given the current circumstances, the district plans to exercise normal dismissal procedures at the end of the school day.

The National Weather Service reported a severe thunderstorm in the St. Louis area with hail and winds up to 60 miles per hour.  The area remains under watch until 6 p.m. on Monday.
