Construction Set to Get Underway Today at Bridgeton Landfill

The construction will cause an increased odor and continue through the middle of June.

As construction is set to continue Monday at the Bridgeton Landfill, Maryland Heights and other area residents are bracing themselves for increased odor, but residents can expect more updates.

The Bridgeton Landfill construction will take place May 20-June 14—dependent on weather--according to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources website, and daily updates on construction and air monitoring will be posted on the site.

The construction will allow for six reinforced concrete pipes to be removed and properly closed, and at the same time, 25 perimeter collection sumps will be installed as a part of an interim capping system.

Last week, pending weather, a cap would be placed on the south quarry of the landfill by Labor Day as a part of an agreement established by his office and Republic Services, owner of the landfill.

The odor will be heightened during construction but will be reduced following the construction, according to the company.
