Tips for Using Verizon Cloud

In a study of the top 10 strategic technology trends for 2014, Gartner predicted that the “era of the personal cloud” – where you can use multiple devices to access stored content – would replace the individual devices that traditionally store your digital life.

That prediction is coming true with the increased availability of services such as Verizon Cloud.

So just what is Verizon Cloud, and how do you use it?

Verizon Cloud is a backup storage service that allows you to sync and securely save your important photos, videos, contacts, music, call logs and even text messages – in short, your digital “stuff.”

“People use their smartphones more than cameras and the number one benefit of Verizon Wireless’ cloud service is you don’t lose your pictures and videos,” says Matt Hagert, district manager for Verizon Wireless in Minnesota. “Also, when consumers go from device to device, all of their content is saved and easily transferred.”

Here’s what you need to know about Verizon’s personal cloud service:

  • Verizon Cloud is compatible with most Android smartphones, tablets and iOS devices.
  • You need to download the Verizon Cloud app to your smartphone or tablet.
  • Open the app, choose the content you want to back up in the settings menu (consider selecting the Wi-Fi-only option for syncing to help save on data usage). You can even put your Verizon Cloud backups on autopilot to keep all of your cloud-connected devices in sync.
  • To access your information from your computer, download the Verizon Cloud desktop application.
  • Your Verizon Cloud account is tied to your individual mobile number. No one else on your account, including the account owner, can sign in without your password.
  • Verizon MORE Everything customers get 25 GB of storage, and those not on MORE Everything plans receive 5 GB. For a monthly fee, you can purchase up to 125 GB of additional cloud storage. A dashboard in the app tracks how many GBs you’ve used.
  • Most devices using older apps such as Backup Assistant Plus are now eligible to upgrade to the latest version of Verizon Cloud.
