St. Louis' Commerce Magazine Ceases Publication After 94 Years

The magazine, known as the official publication of the Regional Commerce and Growth Association, attributes printing costs as a reason for its end.

St. Louis Commerce Magazine, which some may say has been a mainstay in the executive board room of St.Louis’ Fortune 500 companies will cease publication after its July-August issue.

The magazine has been serving the St. Louis community since 1918, and is the the official publication of the St. Louis Commerce and Growth Association.

What used to be published 12 times a year, including an annual roster was cut back to six times a year several years ago. Still, through it's solid reputation held on to it's reader base.

Gary Broome, vice president of communications with the St. Louis Regional and Commerce Growth Association (RCGA) said the shut down was due to “economic reasons."

"Production just was too costly,” he told the St. Louis Business Journal.

Shera Dalin, a long time free lance writer for Commerce was managing editor, taking over a year ago from veteran journalist Meg Zelenovich.

Joe Reagan, who took office as president and CEO of the RCGA in February is listed as the magazine’s publisher. This was mostly a members-only publication. Subscriptions for companies in the RCGA ran from $550 to $2,150 annually, based on the number of company employees. Private subscriptions were for $30 a year.
