Health Inspector: Pueblo Nuevo Employee has "Bare Hand Contact with Ready-to-Eat Foods"

In this week's Restaurant Report legendary restaurant Pueblo Nuevo earns a 'B' grade and is left with a long list of violations and a follow-up date after the inspector visits.

Here are some of the latest restaurant inspections that occurred throughout the past 90 days in the City of Hazelwood and nearby in Florissant, Maryland Heights and Creve Coeur:

Pueblo Nuevo Mexican Restaurant
Address:
7401 N. Lindbergh Blvd., Hazelwood

Comments: Employees drinking beverages in food area without lid. Beverage removed, violation corrected. Employees’ hands not washed between tasks and before putting on gloves. Explained to employees that hands must be washed between different tasks and before putting on gloves. Also explained to wash hands in hand washing sink only, not in three-compartment sink. Bare hand contact with ready to eat foods. Employees put on gloves. No soap and paper towels supplied at hand sink in bar area. Soap and paper towels provided, violation corrected. Bowl of lettuce stored inside hand sink. Bowl removed at inspection. Raw meat stored above ready-to-eat foods in reach-in freezer. Heavy debris buildup on can opener, soda nozzles and inside of ice machine. No date marking system in place. No proof of hepatitis A immunizations provided for all employees. No thermometers in walk-in cooler and prep cooler in cooking area. Soiled towels stored on food contact surfaces. Soiled towels placed on apron for multiple usage. Knives stored between prep cooler and steam table. Plates not air dried after cleaned. Serving spoons not stored to prevent contamination. Food debris on door and at bottom of reach-in freezer in cooking area and at bottom of walk-in freezer. Bottom of tables rusted and covered with soiled newspaper in cooking area. No hot water available at hand sink in restroom in back area. Additional restrooms to be available at follow up. No tight-fitting lid on trash can in restroom in back area. Bathroom door not self-closing in back area. Follow-up inspection scheduled for Dec. 21.

Comments:No food safety certification provided for person-in-charge at time of inspection. Proof of enrollment may be provided. Sticky fly traps removed. No proof of hepatitis A immunizations for all employees. Follow-up inspection scheduled for Oct. 18.

Comments: No paper towels in the dispenser at the prep area hand sink. Damp wiping cloths not held in sanitizer when not in active use. Single-serve plastic silverware stored improperly. Needs to be separated and organized to prevent contamination from hands. Damp mop not elevated to allow for air drying.

Syberg’s at Westport

Comments: Chicken being brought up to temp too slowly in hot-hold steam tables. Actual temperature: 106 degrees Fahrenheit. Under counter reach-in cooler not functioning properly. Hazardous food product being held at temperatures above 41 degrees. Follow-up inspection scheduled for Dec. 17.
