North County Incorporated Honors Hazelwood Police Chief Carl Wolf

Former Florissant Mayor Robert Lowery, Diana Weidinger and several others came together to be celebrated at the annual breakfast.

On Friday morning, more than 500 community and county officials attended the (NCI) Regional Development Association’s 34th Annual Breakfast to celebrate a number of honorees—and beer. 

Chief Carl Wolf was on-hand and honored being given one of NCI's Community Development Awards.

A number of North St. Louis County municipal officials and community members were on hand at the celebration, including city council members, mayors and school board members.

Among a number of honorees was former president of the . which has locations in Village Square, was also awarded the  Business Development Award.

Weidinger received the Elmer Belsha Leadership Award, which goes to one individual each year for his or her long-term commitment to North County Incorporated and to North County and has made a positive impact.

Weidinger appeared humble upon accepting the award and spoke of her great respect for the award’s namesake.

“He was a leader and a gentleman,” she said. “This award does mean a lot to me. I am a North County person, and I will always be a North County person.”

A joke regarding free beer in one of the award recipient’s speeches created a domino effect of mentioning beer in everyone’s speeches. 

Upon receiving a community development award, Chief Wolf said, “With all of the free beer in North County, make sure you drink responsibly.”

Former Mayor Lowery joked at the beginning of his speech that the new mayor doesn’t have beer, but he does offer cocktails in his office.

  • Carolyne Simpson, St. Johns Bank & Trust, Community Development Award
  • Vickie C. Wade, BJK People’s Health Center, Special Recognition Award
  • Former Florissant Mayor Robert Lowery
  • Florissant Police Chief William Karabas
  • Ferguson-Florissant Superintendent Jeff Spiegel

Wolf's award is presented to those whose efforts positively benefit youth, residents, civic organizations, or others through selfless acts. He was one of three to receive the award.
