Lambert Study: Airport Generates $3.6 Billion for St. Louis Biz

The study says the airport creates $1.8 billion in direct economic output, $800 million in business purchases and $1 billion in employee household spending.

Lambert-St. Louis International Airport recently funded a $60,0000 self-assessment that reveals the airport generates about $3.6 billion annually in revenue for businesses in the 16-county metro area.

According to the study, the airport creates direct economic output of $1.8 billion, $800 million in indirect impact from business purchases and a $1 billion indirect impact from employee household spending, according to a St. Louis Business Journal report.

The report also states airport services account for two-thirds of Lambert’s direct economic impact, support 4,600 on-airport jobs that pay in total $273 million a year.

The airport’s $1.8 billion direct impact includes revenue generated from airline ticket purchases, commercial shipping, customer parking, and travelers’ hotel and restaurant charges.

Chicago-based aviation consultancy Unison Consulting executed the study, and used U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis information for the region.
