ALDI Confirms Creve Coeur Grand Opening

The grocer had been rumored as having interest in coming to the city for much of the last year.

Patch has confirmed that discount grocer ALDI will open a Creve Coeur location in 2013 at the former Borders bookstore on Olive Boulevard.

A spokeswoman for a PR firm representing the company said a March grand opening is planned.

There had been talk last spring about the potential for a store at the intersection of Olive and New Ballas Road.

Creve Coeur officials issued a building permit for work on the space back in October. A grocer fits into approved uses for the site, meaning the ALDI by itself would not require Planning and Zoning or City Council approval to move forward.

City Planner Whitney Kelly told Patch Tuesday afternoon that the developer for the property does plan to subdivide the building, book-ending the grocer with a pair of other space.

Fitness Showcase closed in an adjoining space at the property earlier this year. The request for site improvements tied to the plan to subdivide the property will come before Planning and Zoning Commission members in January.

Patch users have had a variety of opinions about the possibility of ALDI coming to Creve Coeur.

Lower the standard? Oh? How so? Is there a book to read what are Creve Coeur standards? This is great news and better than adding another restaurant.

You're joking right? You'd prefer an empty store front? Or (another) 'dollar store'? Or (another) thrift store?

Lower the standard? Don't be an ignorant snob. The Aldi company owns Trader Joes FYI.
