Hazelwood Officer Injured In Pursuit of Stolen Car

Police said the suspect driving a stolen car sped through a red light and struck a responding unit causing serious injuries.

An officer is in serious condition after aiding in stopping a car thief.

Hazelwood police officers arrested a person they believe stole a car on Saturday, Aug. 17 around 11 a.m.

According to police, the suspected car thief was arrested at the intersection of N. Lindbergh Boulevard and Dunn Road. The person tried to escape after hitting a police vehicle, but was eventually taken in for processing.

The Hazelwood Police Department was responding to a report that a car was stolen in the 7400 block of north Lindbergh when officers spotted the car thief in the vehicle and stopped at a red light.

Police said while the officer was maneuvering to get behind the stolen car, the suspect sped through the red light and struck another responding unit that was arriving on the scene.

The attempted getaway was unsuccessful and police arrested the suspect.

The officer in the police car the thief hit was injured and taken to the hospital in serious condition.
