Who Will Be Miss Hazelwood 2013? View the Candidates

Check out these bios each Miss Hazelwood candidate submitted to the City of Hazelwood. Clearly, each has what it takes to represent the City of Hazelwood with character, community commitment, residency and a desire to to be a public figure.

Paige Frye, 17

  • High School:  Hazelwood West High School
  • Year:  Senior
  • As a high school senior, Paige is active in a variety of clubs including VIPs, Student Council, National Honors Society, Pep Band and Marching Band.  She is also the secretary of her senior class.  Since 4th grade, Paige has learned to play the following musical instruments and participate in band: flute; piano; and a variety of percussion instruments.  Paige loves to get involved in Special Olympics Missouri and helping kids through the A+ program.  She spends every weekend at church either lecturing or serving as an alter girl.  Her responsibilities include babysitting three little girls after school on a daily basis, working at Dairy Queen and life guarding at White Birch Bay Aquatic Center in Hazelwood.  In her free time, she loves to read, draw, swim, hang out with friends and donate her time. Paige says her life is very busy and she likes it that way because it keeps her on task and attentive.  


Faith Schallert, 17

  • Year:  Senior
  • Faith enjoys being around people. As a high school senior, she participates in the Color Guard, Slam Cats, Writers Week and The FEA.  Faith also serves as the Editor in Chief of the West Gazette.  Outside of school, she takes dance classes at Little Angels Dance Center and mentors freshman and preschool girls at Grace Christian Church. She strives to always have a positive attitude and keep a smile on the faces of those around her.  The Bible verse she lives by is Solomon 4:7, “All beautiful you are, my darling, there is no flaw in you.”  


Caitlin Mills, 18

  • High School:  Hazelwood West High School
  • Year: Senior
  • Caitlin is the oldest child of Paul and Carolyn Mills.  She is a sister to Abigail, Paul, Jayden and Hannah.  Caitlin has lived in Hazelwood all her life.  As a high school senior, she participates in many clubs including the French Club, VIPS, and the National Honors Art Society where she served as vice president last year.  Also, she is a member of the Hazelwood Sharks swim team and manages a boys’ swim team in the fall.  In addition, Caitlin is big into Scouts, being a Girl Scout for 13 years in Troop 67 and earning her Silver Award.  She is currently the president of her Troop as well. Caitlin is a lifeguard at Hazelwood’s White Birch Bay Aquatic Center and helps out with giving swim lessons.  In her free time, she enjoys drawing and swimming.


Amanda Blanton, Age 16

  • Year:  Junior
  • Amanda enjoys being involved in her school and community.  At Duchesne, she is a leader in the Link Crew program which helps mentor and support members of the freshmen class throughout the year.  She also participates in the soccer program.  Last year, Amanda was voted captain of her Junior Varsity team.  Outside of school, she plays select soccer for Lou Fusz and has been a team member for the past nine years.  She is a sales associate at Platos Closet and enjoys it very much.  Community service is important to her.  She has volunteered for Vacation Bible School at Hazelwood Baptist Church, the St. Louis Area Food Bank, Angel Tree Ministry at Grace Church, and more.  In her free time, she likes to go shopping and spend time with family and friends.  


Sarah Miller, Age 17

  • Year:  Senior
  • Sarah is huge into theatre, anywhere from acting to being part of the behind-the-scene action.  She is currently a member of the Hazelwood West Thespian Troupe.  As a high school senior, she’s also involved in Special Olympics, A+ tutoring, and the Health Occupations program.  In addition, she cares for her two-year-old twin cousins and does various activities outside of school.  She recently joined the Hazelwood Fire Explorers.  Sarah loves being a lifeguard at Hazelwood’s White Birch Bay Aquatic Center as well.  Joltco.com is a company that her uncle runs and she appreciates his support.


Kayla Collins, Age 15

  • High School:  Hazelwood West High School
  • Year:  Sophomore
  • As a high school sophomore, Kayla is huge on getting good grades and being the best she can be.  She is currently a member of the Pridettes at West (the dance team).  She also loves to volunteer.  After the tornado hit Hazelwood earlier this year, Kayla spent a few days at a house right behind HWHS picking up tree limbs and discarding other damaged objects with her youth group.  She spends every Sunday and Wednesday night at her church, and gets involved with projects that help her community.  In addition to helping out with Vacation Bible School this summer, she went on a mission trip to Chicago to help refugee families get settled into their new life here in the U.S. In addition, Kayla plans to start volunteering at a crisis nursery sometime soon.  Her family means the world to her.  Last year, her grandma had to have open heart surgery but her insurance company wouldn’t cover it.  The cost of the surgery was over $1,500.  To help raise money for her grandma, Kayla got all her friends and family together and put ads on Craigslist for a huge garage sale and made $1,300.  She says she would be willing to help anyone in need if she could.
