Miss Hazelwood 2013, Are You Out There?

Applications are available for the coronation, and the winner will be crowned at 2013 HarvestFest.

The City of Hazelwood will induct its new queen during a coronation at HarvestFest, but the first step is finding a number of qualified candidates.

Hazelwood's young ladies have been invited to register and compete in the 2013 Miss Hazelwood Coronation. The deadline has been extended from Aug. 19 to Aug. 28.

Ladies between the ages of 15 and 19 who live in Hazelwood are eligible to compete. Competitors must have a sponsor for it and pay a $75 sponsorship fee. The HarvestFest committee can help with attaining a sponsor if needed.

For the winner, she is not only Miss Hazelwood but receives a $500 scholarship, prizes and represents the city for the next year. Kirsten Henderson currently reigns as Miss Hazelwood.

Leading up to the competition, Miss Hazelwood competitors must attend a series of meetings, which are as follows: meet with city staff and take photos, Aug. 29, 6 p.m.; interview with judges, Sept. 5, 6 p.m.; dinner for candidates and guests, Sept. 10, 6 p.m.

All leads up to the coronation during HarvestFest, starting at 10:30 a.m., onstage at St. Louis County Bandwagon.

Registration packets and rules can be attained at the Hazelwood Community Center or Hazelwood Civic Center East. They can also be downloaded from the city's website.
