Listen To Your Mother, Perform for Her Mother's Day 2013

The performance organization wants to hear stories from local moms that will be chosen for a May 11 Mother's Day show.

Do you have a crazy or heartwarming story you want to share about motherhood? Then a special performance debuting in May could be your chance to tell it.

Listen to Your Mother (LTYM) is part of a national series of 24 live readings that will take place across the country to celebrate Mother’s Day 2013. The show will be on Saturday, May 11, at the St. Luke's Institute for Health Education.

St. Louis is among 24 cities selected to host this special performance, which will feature some of St. Louis’ most talented writers and bloggers on the beauty, the best, and the barely rested of motherhood. Television personality Virginia Kerr, of Great Day St. Louis, will host the event.

Born of the creative work of parents who publish online, each production is directed, produced and performed by local communities, for local communities, with a percentage of ticket sales going a local nonprofit cause. The St. Louis beneficiary is Connections to Success, which succeeds in breaking the cycle of poverty one family at a time through resources, hope, and a plan.

“You don’t have to call yourself a writer or be an experienced speaker. We’re looking for regular, everyday people who want to share their story from their heart,” said Ellie Grossman, director/producer of LTYM St. Louis, who is a Wildwood resident and author of Mishegas of Motherhood. Raising Children To Leave The Nest As Long As They Come Home For Dinner. “We have a vast pool of talent in the St. Louis area, and I’m excited to put our great community in the spotlight.”

LTYM performances will be streamed live via social media and shared on LTYM's YouTube channel.

Grossman said she is thrilled to put this show together with a powerhouse team of local moms—Laura Edwards Ray, Suzanne Tucker, and Naomi Francis—who are experts in writing, social media and event planning.

"Giving Mother’s Day a microphone is what LTYM is all about, and I encourage everyone to share their words with us, have a wonderful time, and benefit a great cause,” said Grossman, whose blog recently was nominated as a “Top 25 Author Mom.”

The popularity of this Mother's Day endeavor has grown quickly. Beginning with one show in Madison, WI, in 2010, five cities hosted LTYM shows in 2011, then 10 in 2012, and a national movement was born.
