Patch Picks: Free Summer Concerts for Seven Days of the Week

This week's Patch Picks column is a list dedicated to free concerts to keep a little extra money in your pockets while having fun.

Summer's the time to relax under the stars with an ice cold drink. For those Hazelwood residents looking for some good live music, we've got the list for free concerts to ensure that the summer of 2011 is entertaining. A big plus, there's one for every day of the week!

Mondays: The Compton Heights Concert Band will host Musical Mondays at Tower Grove Park. The concerts kicked off July 4, and will run July 18 and 25, as well as August 1.

Tuesdays: University City Summer Band will perform in the Market at the Delmar Loop through July 26. All concerts begin at 7 p.m. and typically last about an hour.

Chesterfield's fantastic Faust Park has concerts running through August 16.

Wednesdays: Relax to the beautiful scenery at the Missouri Botanical Gardens while listening to the Whitaker Music Festival. Various artists perform through August 3 at 7:30 p.m. Free admission begins at 5 p.m. and performances are held at the Cohen Amphitheater.

 

Thursdays: Enjoy your lunch with St. Louis Public Library’s “Not so quiet” concert series July. These lunchtime concerts run 12 - 1 p.m. at the Old Post Office Plaza downtown.

Also at the Old Post Office Plaza are Parties on the Plaza, which play the second Thursday of the month: July 14, August 11 and September 8, from 5 - 8 p.m.  There’s plenty of food, drinks, giveaways and great music.

Sounds at the Station are the third Thursdays of the month this year: July 21, August 18 and September 15, by Lake Stage at Union Station. Come take a listen while you do some shopping or just enjoy a night out. Concerts are 5 - 8:30 p.m.

Westport Plaza is still throwing its infamous Parties in the Plaza.This summer they are July 21, August 18 and September 15 from 5 - 8 p.m. Start off with a nice dinner in the plaza, grab a drink and listen to some tunes with friends.

 

Fridays: The St. Louis Zoo has Jungle Boogies in the Schnucks Farm Plaza until September 2. Various local and national musicians play as you hang out where the wild things really are!

Ferguson’s Victoria Plaza has concerts the second and fourth Friday of each month through October 14. All music commences at 7 p.m. and ends around 9p.m.

 

Saturdays: Truman Park, here in Hazelwood, has a 2011 under the new gazebo that starts at 7 p.m. The Bob Kuban Band plays Saturday, KLOSE’ NUFF plays July 30 and the Chaz45 Band plays August 13.

 

Sundays: For classical music lovers, the Gateway Festival Orchestra performs at the Brookings Quadrangle at Washington University. Concerts are at 7:30 p.m. on July 17, 24 and 31.

Sunday Serenades occur in Francis Park July 17, 24 and 31. The Compton Heights Concert Band provides the musical entertainment.
